Maximise your English Language Course
There are plenty of ways you can maximise your English learning experience whilst studying in the UK. Here are a few we believe every learner should take into consideration.
HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE
Learning any new language is a challenge and takes dedication and commitment. Be prepared to come out of your comfort zone, to be brave and make mistakes you can learn from. Identify your reasons for learning English and revisit them with you need some extra motivation.
TAKE EVERY OPPORTUNITY
Take full advantage of being in your new country and expose yourself to as much of the language as you can. Every day situations around the home or grocery stores or public transport represent valuable learning opportunities; a small exchange with a bus drivers or cashier, simply reading signs and labels, following an English TV program. Get out, get talking, get reading.
CHOOSE TO STAY WITH A HOST FAMILY
You will have little choice but to communicate in English- not only is this option a wonderful way to radically improve your spoken English but you will be a part of the family’s home and be immersed in their culture. This is a fantastic way to meet new people, learn their local way of life and explore the traditions and food.
MAKE ENGLISH-SPEAKING FRIENDS
You will of course find it much easier to make friends with those from your home country and speak your native language- but be sure to make time to interact with your English-speaking classmates. These will be the conversations that serve as the ultimate learning tool, allowing you to practice the way in which you express yourself and your conversation skills.
LEARN TO THINK IN ENGLISH
With a little bit of effort you can begin to think in English. Start by talking to yourself through everyday tasks like house chores or cooking, describe your surroundings or recall the day’s events in English.
PICK THE RIGHT COURSE AND SCHOOL
Where possible, pick a school that has been recommended to you personally. Based on the excellent results and learning experiences of our students year after year. AQTD has a portfolio of schools that we can whole-heartedly recommend. Consider your level, which qualification you require, the hours you would like to put in each week, the location of the school and classroom size.
